Quarter

The quarter's plan, your goals and your direction, the longer range your weeks add up to.

Weekly plans are short-range. Quarter is where you set the direction they add up to, and it is what the planner reads when it decides which of the many reasonable things to put in a given week. It opens on the quarter you are in, or the next one in the last two weeks of a quarter.

The Quarter page

The quarter's plan

The page leads with this quarter's plan, read in place. With no plan yet it says so, with Plan your quarter beside it. Earlier quarterly plans are listed just below.

Planning a quarter is a short set of questions, like the week's: what carried you through last quarter, what the season holds, and up to three goals for the quarter, each with a way to tell it is on track. asambl then drafts the quarterly plan. Plan this quarter also appears on Today when a quarter has no plan.

Goals

Goals are grouped by life area and tracked to completion. A goal under Health and a goal under Money sit in their own groups and are read by their own planners. A goal you do not tie to an area still works; it collects in a General group at the bottom of the list, and no single planner treats it as its own.

Each goal shows its deadline: due in so many days, or overdue, marked so you see it. Strengthen offers a sharper version of a goal, and Mark done completes it.

A goal is an input, not decoration. The Health planner reads your health goals when it drafts your training week; the Money planner reads your money goals when it drafts your spending. A goal you never write down cannot shape a week.

Direction

Your values, what you steer away from, your mission, your principles, and the long-term outcomes you are working towards. This is the longest-range thing asambl holds, and it changes rarely. Every plan answers to it.

Values matter more than they look. When two reasonable plans compete for the same hours, what you have written here is what breaks the tie.

The quarterly rhythm

Weekly plans sit inside the quarter. The quarter sets the direction, the week does the work, and what you complete in a week feeds back up. This is why a plan sometimes schedules something you did not ask for that week: it is serving a goal you set for the quarter. Midway through, Today offers a mid-quarter review.

How much each area is planned

In Settings, under Planning, each area can be set to Plan this area, Just reserve time, or Off. Just reserve time holds space in your week and leaves what happens in it to you. Nothing commits without your acceptance whichever you choose.

The profile behind each area, and how much of it is filled in, is on your life picture.
